Learning to Receive

Author : Sharon Marquart
We learned how to drain ourselves with no clue how to refill. It taught us there is only so much to go around and we shouldn't be selfish, so we never really learned to receive. This set up a pattern of imbalance and a created a generation of people that felt deprived and depressed.Energetically drained with a desire to return to balance and feel rich and happy, we reacted by becoming over-consumers. We filled ourselves from the "outside," attempting to be satisfied on the "inside." We filled our houses, basements, attics and closets with more stuff than we could ever possibly use. We overfilled our bodies with food that we could never digest. We built an empire based on credit- spending what we did not have, because we never learned to receive.A new teaching has emerged, showing us there is an Infinite and Divine flow of energy in the Universe. When we live in that flow, we feel satisfied on the inside while enjoying the pleasures of life on the outside. In order for us to be in that flow, we need to learn to receive. When I first learned of this teaching, I had to put forth extra effort in regaining my balance and getting into the flow. One of the ways I did this was to remember each day offered me many gifts. I had to train myself to stay awake and receive whatever gifts were brought into my life that day. I found a terra-cotta angel kneeling and holding a gift in her hands. I painted the gift gold and placed the statue on a shelf by the front door. Every time I left the house, I would look at the angel and remind myself to receive all the gifts this day had to offer. As I walked through my day I was amazed at the many gifts that were given to me. It was pleasantly overwhelming!I used this affirmation: "I am open and receptive to the gifts of this day." I paid attention to my body language, keeping my palms open, my shoulders back and head up, all signs of receptivity. I counted how many times I could say "thank-you" in a day, knowing each one represented a gift I received. I learned how to practice self-care and fill myself up from the inside. There is a balance in giving and receiving and an endless abundance of life's energy. I began to see myself as a vessel, filling to an overflowing capacity. Because I learned to receive, I discovered I was better able to give generously while remaining full and in the Divine flow. And in receiving, I feel good and kind and full of joy. Discover what gifts are waiting for you today- and be sure to receive them with an open heart and mind.Sharon Marquart is a gifted Certified Personal Coach, inspirational speaker and author.
