What is reality? Our perception is based upon interactions between our five senses and signals from the universe which are then compared to billions of earlier interactions, memories and experiences. All this includes our upbringing, education and opinions from others. Also our feelings and our attitudes affect our perception as well as our intuition and our instincts.
Can we define reality at all? Is the reality different if someone looses his sight? Well, for him or her it definitely is but not for you and me. What if (in the same way) the universe is much more complex than we can perceive? Just because the one who looses his/her sight can't see like most of us, this doesn't mean that what we can see doesn't exist. We think that we see the same things (cars, houses, trees, people etc.) in exactly the same way but is that the fact? Did Van Gogh see the world in the same way as Picasso?Maybe there is much more in the universe than what we (the majority of the people on earth) can perceive with our limited senses? Some physicists (like David Bohm) claims that we make a four-dimensional (time is the fourth dimension) projection of a multi-dimensional reality. What if we were to loose our memory? Wouldn't this probably change our perception substantially? Since we all have different memories do we see different worlds then? Our individual and shared values have a huge influence upon our perception. Some examples are:1. Our opinion of right and wrong differs a lot from culture to culture and from country to country.
2. What is wealth? For some people it is a lot of money and earthly goods but for others it is a good health and a lot of children.
3. Our perception of success versus failure is very relative. If somebody tried to find a medicine against pneumonia, but instead he/she found a medicine against asthma, was he/she a failure or a success? Are we making mistakes or progress?Who defines the rules and the success criterias? How much is determined by our individual selves and how much by different groups in which we take part (family, community, country etc.)? Are we living in reality or are we living an illusion? A partly mutual and shared illusion? And how much can we influence by or own efforts?Gunnar Jensen has been working for almost 30 years in the IT-industry (mostly in sales).
