How Do You Feel?

Author : Dr Kem Thompson
Are there things you know you should do, but you don't do? Things which, if you did, would help you bring about the sort of lifestyle you desire? Yet you don't do them?If you're like many people, then there probably are things like
that in your life. Kind of like the child who knows (because
mom has harped on it forever) that vegetables are good for him,
yet he refuses to eat them. But put a tub of ice cream in front
of him and he jumps at it like there's no tomorrow. Why do you think we behave that way?
Why is it that we sometimes find it hard to do what we know will
be good for us?The answer to those questions are in different levels. Today
we'll talk about one level - the level of feelings. Here's what I mean. The way you behave, the way you do things, depends on how you feel
about things. Take the kid in the above scenario as an example.
The way he behaves towards vegetables is different from the way
he behaves towards ice cream. This is because he feels differently
about the two items. Here's another way to look at it. Think about your job, business or
whatever occupation you've got. If you feel good about it, you will
do it well. You'll work enthusiastically. You'll willingly do a good
job everytime. You'll enjoy working. The result? You'll progress -
get promoted, attract more customers, etc.If you're a student and you like your subjects, you'll enjoy studying
them, and do your best in them. The result? You'll ace your exams as
they come.On the other hand, if you dislike your job/career/subjects, you'll
find it tedious to go to work or study your books. You'll find every
excuse not to do what you should do. You'll be frustrated because
you're doing something you don't feel like doing. Thus you will
perform poorly. The result? Promotions pass you by (who'd want to
promote an underachiever?), your business goes down the drain
(customers can sense when you don't like what you do, and that repels
them), you fail your tests/exams.In other words, the way you feel about something determines how you
behave, and the way you behave determines the results you get.So I ask you. when you look at your life, how do you feel about it?
How do you feel about the activities you do every day? How do you feel
about the goals you're working towards? If you feel good about something, you will do well in it.
If you feel bad about something, you won't do well in it.Thus what can you do to make you feel good about the things you do?
How can you control your feelings?
Are there things you're doing that you should stop doing?Ask yourself these questions and note the answers you get (the answers
may come as thoughts that occur to you 'out of the blue', for example).Remember that everything you do is YOUR choice. Right down to your
feelings. Wouldn't it be great to wake up every morning looking forward
to the new day? Wouldn't you like to enjoy absolutely everything you
'have' to do?Well, you can!.But more on that later. For now, go through this article again and
answer the questions posed within it. Next week you'll discover another
level to the first set of questions in this ezine. You'll get greater
insight into the way for you to control your feelings.Until then and from now, choose to feel good about your life.Otherwise choose goals and activities you'll feel good about, and
get to work on those.Dr Kem Thompson is a Success Coach, Speaker, Author.
